White kitchen cabinets have dominated the design market for years now, and they’re not going away any time soon. However, we are starting to see this trend evolve into something a little new… off white cabinet colors.
The Reason Behind the Evolution
White kitchen cabinets have stood the test of time because they are not only timeless, but homeowners also realized just how much bigger and brighter they can make a smaller kitchen feel. But, while everything felt big and bright and modern, people also started to realize it felt kind of… cold.
When pure white is paired with cool tones like gray and stainless steel (which many people chose to do in recent years), it leaves the design feeling a bit sterile and impersonal. Sure, the kitchen looks like a beautiful catalog picture, but does it feel like a home?

A White Alternative
Enter off-white cabinet paint colors. They achieve the same space-enlarging effect of white cabinets, but without sacrificing any warmth or the homey feeling that comes with it. And that’s why we’re seeing the white cabinet trend shift away from stark white towards softer, more natural, muted tones.
Off-white cabinets also pair beautifully with some other warm design elements that boomed in popularity recently, like gold and brass fixtures and natural wood features.
Evolving Trends = Evolving Paint
In response to the rise of neutral cabinet colors, Dura Supreme Cabinetry recently released four nature-inspired colors: Canvas, Mushroom, Dove, and Putty.
Now, if you’re trying to mimic antique white kitchen cabinets, Dove is the color for you. It’s a beautiful shade of off-white that will make your kitchen cabinets look just like antique white cabinetry. If you’re looking to venture a little more towards the creamy section of off-white, Putty is a personal favorite of mine.
